For years, the TJMAXX at Acton Plaza has been a go-to destination for bargain hunters. Tucked into the 137,000 square-foot shopping center on Massachusetts Avenue, the offprice retailer has served as one of the plaza’s anchor tenants alongside Roche Bros, drawing shoppers from Acton, Concord, Boxborough, and beyond.
Word has been circulating in the community that the TJMAXX may be on its way out. Social media posts have stoked speculation that the store could be closing or relocating, leaving many regular shoppers wondering what the future holds for the empty space left behind. Murmurings of change began in August 2024, when Acton Plaza was sold to Brixmor Property Group for 38 million. Brixmor, which owns and operates around 360 retail centers across the country, has been open about its strategy of acquiring shopping centers to maximize value. The company has described Acton Plaza as having “compelling near-term leasing opportunities and below-market in-place rents.” However, nothing has been officially confirmed with what will replace the TJMAXX.
