The exciting annual Senior versus Staff game took place on March 7th, filled with hundreds of students and supporters. Students were dressed in all grey, quickly filling up their side of the court, and bringing a lot of energy to the stands. The Pep Band and South Commons band arrived playing their usual tunes for people settling in before the game, and the event started with a bang as Student Council members, and a senior basketball player began to announce the starting lineups.
The Senior coaches Emma Parker, Carolyn McCarthy, and Declan Greene, to name a few, gathered their team with final messages of encouragement. Meanwhile the five staff were ready to take on the senior class. As the ball flew to a start, the game became heated, Mr. Morris helping the staff team by sinking threes from the start. Both teams had similar possession, and by the end of the first quarter, it was 16-13 with seniors leading. The game continued as the lead shifted between sides.
The half ended 27-21 with the seniors holding their lead. Later, the teams huddled as the Half Court contest began. With over 50 students participating, Victoria Thermidor, a senior from the AB Girls Basketball Varsity team prevailed. After this short break, the game resumed. Threes, layups, and tight defense only heightened both sides as the seniors tried to defend their lead. There was one minute left, and the lead narrowed to only 5 points. The chants crescendoed, the pep band played louder, and everyone was excited to learn which team would take the victory home. The game came to an end with seniors earning their hard-fought victory of 55-49. Seniors poured onto the court to celebrate their peers’ triumph, marking the end of this year’s Seniors versus Staff game.
Everyone had an amazing time rooting for seniors and watching everyone have fun on the court. Quoting from sophomore Sophia Lopez: “I loved watching all of my friends on the court, playing against my teachers. So excited to play when I’m in my senior year!”
