Boxborough’s Sweet New Spot

The Thinking Flower, a new artisan bakery and coffee shop, is the new talk of the town in Boxborough, drawing lots of attention from local residents. Located at 629 Mass. Ave, the bakery opened in November 2025 and is owned by Boxborough resident Divya Suryaprasad. This opening marked a milestone for the small town, as it is Boxborough’s first bakery and coffee shop. Community members and local officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening, welcoming the new business and recognizing Suryaprasad for investing in the local community. With a background in both computer science and pastry arts, Suryaprasad brings a unique combination of precision and creativity to her baking. The interior of the shop presents a cozy atmosphere, seating around 25 people. It is a comfortable and perfect place to study or catch up with friends. Since opening, the shop has received very positive feedback from customers and currently holds a 4.5 star rating on Yelp.

The menu at The Thinking Flower focuses on handcrafted pastries made fresh daily in small batches. The kitchen is visible from the seating inside the shop, so you can see your pastries being made! Customers can find a variety of croissants, cakes, and other seasonal baked goods, along with both hot and cold coffees. The croissants stand out as the main face of the bakery. They have a crisp and flaky exterior with soft and buttery layers inside. Delicious! You can tell with each bite how much effort and attention to detail the bakers put into their craft. The chocolate croissants, my personal favorite, pair extremely well with their hot coffee; however, I do wish for a slightly more generous amount of chocolate filing. The cakes and other sweets, including tiramisu, french macarons, cupcakes, eclairs, cream puffs, etc. are mouthwatering. Every time I visit the bakery I never leave with just one thing. Many seem to agree with me, an individual even stating in her review that the pastries were “the best [she’d] ever tried in the US.” Because everything is made in small batches, items often sell out quickly, which is the only downside I can seem to think of.

The pastries aren’t all that The Thinking Flower is known for, as the drinks are arguably even better. The lattes, including honey bee, banana bread, salted honey lavender, blood orange ginger, etc. are smooth and incredibly flavorful, rich in aromas as well. The coffee is strong, but not bitter, making it a good choice for both quick morning stops to caffeinate for the day, or for a longer stay to chat with friends. For those who enjoy tea or matcha, The Thinking Flower hasn’t forgotten about you, with their jammin’ matcha made from fresh, house-made jam, blueberry matcha, cherry pie chai, etc. Whether you are ordering a simple brewed coffee or a specialty drink with millions of modifications, the quality remains consistent. My personal favorite has to be the blueberry basil lemonade. It is just the right amount of sweet blueberry lemonade and minty fresh basil. This assortment of hot and cold coffee, as well as refreshers and teas really creates a warming atmosphere that offers something for everyone.

The Thinking Flower is open Tuesday through Friday from 7:30am to 3pm, and Saturday from 8am to 5pm. Because of these hours, it is hard to find a time as a student to visit the shop after school; but, if you schedule in the time, you can stop by for a quick to-go breakfast right before school. With the business continuing to grow, they are currently hiring experienced workers to join the team. With its welcoming environment and high quality pastries and coffee, The Thinking Flower has quickly made a positive impression in not just Boxborough, but the surrounding towns. By offering a new gathering place and introducing hand crafted pastries to the area, the bakery adds to the town’s local business scene and is starting to become a regular stop for local residents and visitors.
